OUR STORY
First Door began ten years ago as our teachers recognized a need for after-school homework support by their neighboring families in North Portland. Together they began providing tutoring and reading support to groups of students out of their garage and then later apartment. As numbers grew, the kids named their new space “Homework Club.”

Today, First Door provides Homework Club and other programs to dozens of families in that same neighborhood. From our on-site community center, First Door operates programs where our families and teachers live--bridging the gap between school and home. Whether we are providing reading support, working in the children’s garden, distributing food, or teaching English, we are privileged to be welcomed into the lives of our neighbors and those we serve.
